en.Wedoany.com Reported - Wedoany News, August 18 — China Chemical Engineering International Company's Saudi Branch, together with Saudi Arabian Mining Company (Ma'aden) and EPCM general contractor Bechtel, held the kick-off meeting for the Al-Rjum Gold Mine Project in Saudi Arabia, marking the project's official entry into the substantive execution phase.

The Al-Rjum Gold Mine is located in Mecca Province, Saudi Arabia, approximately 200 kilometers northeast of Taif. The mine is an open-pit operation, with a supporting ore processing plant designed with a capacity of 8 million tons of ore per year. The project is expected to have a 12-year mine life, with total production reaching 3.6 million ounces of gold and an average annual output of approximately 300,000 ounces. Once operational, Al-Rjum will become the largest gold mining project in Saudi Arabia.

In August 2025, Ma'aden's Board of Directors approved the Final Investment Decision for the Al-Rjum project. In October of the same year, Ma'aden awarded the EPCM contract, valued at SAR 391.1 million (approximately USD 104.3 million), to Bechtel, with a construction period of 39 months. Bechtel will be responsible for the design, procurement coordination, and construction management of the mine and ore processing facilities.

At the kick-off meeting, the core project management teams of the three parties conducted alignment on key topics including project organizational structure, HSE safety and environmental management, quality control, interface coordination, security and material warehousing, workforce planning, schedule control, and contract and commercial management. The China Chemical Engineering project team presented the overall project execution plan, outlining safeguard measures such as centralized resource coordination, refined on-site management, and dynamic safety risk prevention, and stated its commitment to strictly adhering to Ma'aden's MSHEM safety management system. Ma'aden and Bechtel fully acknowledged the project team's preliminary preparation efforts.

As next steps, the project team will coordinate and advance the mobilization of personnel, equipment, and materials to the site.
