China Wuyi's RWC922 Road Project in Western Kenya Officially Commences
en.Wedoany.com Reported - Recently, the RWC922 Road Project in Kenya, undertaken by China Wuyi, has entered the pavement construction phase. The Kenya Rural Roads Authority has issued the commencement order, and project construction personnel, machinery, and materials are being mobilized to the site. Clearing and obstacle removal, subgrade treatment, rehabilitation of existing road defects, and asphalt concrete paving are proceeding simultaneously across multiple work fronts.

The RWC922 Project is located in western Kenya, with a total road length of approximately 57 kilometers, covering relevant roads in Bomet County and Kericho County. The project consists of the Soimet—Kapletundo—Mogogosiek, Teganda—Ndaraweta—Isaik—Sigorwet—Leldaret, and Cheplanket—Kapkatet sections, primarily involving the rehabilitation and pavement upgrading of existing rural roads.
The scope of works includes earthworks for subgrade, cement-stabilized soil base course, asphalt concrete surface course, road drainage, box culverts, and traffic safety facilities. According to the bill of quantities of the Kenya Rural Roads Authority, the asphalt concrete paving volume is approximately 15,400 cubic meters, with prime coat and tack coat usage of approximately 231,000 liters and 395,000 liters, respectively. Ancillary works also include road signs, thermoplastic pavement markings, guardrails, kerbs, and kilometer posts.
The project entered the public tendering process in January 2026, with funding from the Government of Kenya's development budget, and bids closed on February 19. China Wuyi Kenya Branch received the letter of acceptance in July, subsequently completing site surveys, preparation of construction organization plans, site preparation, and equipment commissioning, and entered the implementation phase on site after the commencement order was issued.
According to the tender documents, the construction period is 24 months, followed by a 12-month defect liability period after completion. Foreign contractors are required to allocate at least 40% of the contract value to local Kenyan suppliers, subcontractors, and labor, and the maximum permitted subcontracting ratio is 40% of the contract amount. These requirements will drive demand for local aggregates, asphalt materials, concrete products, road safety facilities, construction machinery rental, and transportation services.
The project area is home to agricultural production zones for tea, corn, and other crops. Upon completion of the road rehabilitation, connectivity between rural roads and regional trunk routes will be improved, enhancing travel convenience for residents along the corridor and the efficiency of agricultural product transportation.
