en.Wedoany.com Reported - On August 22, a transport vehicle carrying a giant wind turbine gearbox drove out of the factory of Baotou CRRC Qishuyan Institute Wind Power Transmission Co., Ltd., marking the delivery journey of Inner Mongolia's first 12.5MW ultra-high-power wind turbine gearbox. This "steel giant" is currently the highest-power wind power transmission equipment independently developed and produced in Inner Mongolia. It fills the gap in the region's manufacturing of large-megawatt wind turbine gearboxes and signifies that Shiguai District, as an important industrial sector of Baotou, the "Steel City on the Grassland," now possesses the capability to provide core power equipment for large-scale wind power bases in the Gobi and desert regions.

The wind turbine gearbox is the "heart" component of a wind turbine unit, demanding high technical density and stringent reliability. The 12.5MW gearbox rolled off the production line this time embodies over 60 years of technological accumulation in rail transit gear transmission systems by CRRC Qishuyan Institute. In response to the extreme climatic conditions in the "Three Norths" region—characterized by high sand and wind, large temperature differences, and severe sandstorms—the technical team conducted targeted research and took the lead in achieving breakthroughs in four core technologies: low-temperature sealing, anti-corrosion protection, efficient dust prevention, and intelligent heat dissipation.

Xu Han, General Manager of Baotou CRRC Qishuyan Institute Wind Power Transmission Co., Ltd., stated that relying on the parent company's national-level R&D platform, the enterprise has fully integrated its system integration capabilities, test verification systems, and lean manufacturing standards from the rail transit sector into the wind power industry. To ensure the ultimate reliability of every product, the company has simultaneously built the largest 20MW-class comprehensive loading test bench for wind turbine gearboxes in the "Three Norths" region, capable of conducting "CT-style" precision monitoring of dozens of parameters including temperature, vibration, and lubrication, ensuring that every product leaving the factory has passed rigorous "final examinations."

From its registration in December 2024, to official production in September 2025, and now to the batch delivery of 12.5MW products, Baotou CRRC Qishuyan Institute has achieved a new industry speed in Shiguai District—"commencing construction, commencing production, and achieving full efficiency within the same year." Currently, the base possesses intelligent manufacturing capabilities with an annual output of 800 sets of 3–20MW full-series wind turbine gearboxes, making it the largest and most capable large-megawatt wind turbine gearbox production base in northern China, filling the gap in Inner Mongolia in the integration and verification of ultra-high-power wind power transmission assemblies.
