Waaree Forever Energies Awarded 700MW Solar-Plus-Storage Project in India

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On August 28, Waaree Energies announced that its wholly-owned subsidiary, Waaree Forever Energies Private Limited, received a Letter of Award from the Solar Energy Corporation of India (SECI) on August 27 to develop a 700MW solar photovoltaic project coupled with a 700MW/2800MWh energy storage system in Solapur, Maharashtra. The project is currently at the award stage.

The award adopts an integrated configuration of solar power and large-scale energy storage, with a solar PV installed capacity of 700MW, an energy storage system power rating of 700MW, and an energy storage capacity of 2800MWh. Based on this capacity configuration, the energy storage system corresponds to a 4-hour storage duration. Waaree Forever Energies will undertake project development, with SECI as the awarding authority.

According to the award documents, the project is a one-time domestic order, and the associated Power Purchase Agreement is valid for 25 years, commencing from the scheduled date of power supply. In the exchange filing, Waaree Energies has included the entire 700MW solar PV and 700MW/2800MWh storage facility within the scope of this development.

Waaree Forever Energies has previously advanced large-scale solar projects in Solapur. Documents from the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission (CERC) show that the company is developing the 700MW Salgar solar project in the area, which was initially planned with a capacity of 1000MW but was later adjusted to 700MW due to the available grid connectivity capacity constraints at the Solapur substation. The company had applied to implement the 700MW grid connectivity capacity in two phases of 300MW and 400MW.

Regulatory documents also reveal that Waaree Forever Energies submitted the relevant grid connectivity application in September 2024, and the Central Transmission Utility of India subsequently granted it 700MW of connectivity capacity. In June 2026, the Central Electricity Regulatory Commission ruled on the company's application seeking adjustments to the connectivity start date and the financial closure deadline.
