Peru's MTC Launches Feasibility Study for Intelligent Transportation on 133.2 km Logistics Corridor

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 1, Peru's Ministry of Transport and Communications (MTC) announced the launch of a feasibility study for an Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) on the Lima–Callao–Chancay logistics corridor. The study covers 133.2 kilometers of the national road network, with technical support provided by the South Korean government, and is scheduled for completion in July 2027. It will assess the technical, operational, economic, and financial conditions required for the subsequent implementation of the system.

The study includes evaluating integration solutions for sensors, camera equipment, communication networks, data analysis tools, and traffic control centers, as well as developing technical plans for functions such as traffic flow monitoring, incident detection, emergency management, and real-time road information processing. Representatives from the Peruvian and South Korean governments, as well as agencies related to transportation and road infrastructure, have already participated in project discussion activities.

In June of this year, the MTC approved the "National Road Network Intelligent Transportation System Master Plan," which covers approximately 1,560 kilometers of national highways from Trujillo to Arequipa and outlines the phased deployment of 22 ITS services, 13 of which are prioritized for implementation before 2035. At that time, the MTC designated Lima–Callao–Chancay as one of the first ITS pilot corridors, with an initial planned scope of approximately 145 kilometers, while also advancing public investment projects for an intelligent transportation control center and ITS coverage across more than 10,000 kilometers of national highways.

The feasibility study now launched has set the current study scope at 133.2 kilometers. The Lima–Callao–Chancay corridor connects the Port of Chancay, the Port of Callao, and Jorge Chávez International Airport. The project remains in the feasibility study phase at this stage, with specific construction investment, equipment procurement scale, and system implementation contracts to be determined upon completion of the study.
