Wedoany.com Report-Jun 21, A 30 MW solar park is being developed in Brunei by Seri Suria Power (B) Sdn. Bhd., a joint venture formed by Atlantic Blue Sdn. Bhd., Khazanah Satu Sdn. Bhd., and Serikandi Oilfield Services Sdn. Bhd. Atlantic Blue, a subsidiary of Malaysia’s Solarvest Holdings Bhd, holds a 34% stake, while Khazanah Satu and Serikandi own 30% and 36%, respectively.

The project, located on a 33.3-hectare remediated landfill in Kampong Belimbing, Brunei-Muara district, has secured a 25-year power purchase agreement with the Brunei government, effective from the plant’s commercial operation date. Construction is underway and expected to be completed by the end of 2026. The government has also signed a land lease agreement for the site.

Once operational, the solar park will be Brunei’s largest solar installation and the first developed through a public-private partnership. This initiative supports Brunei’s goal to achieve 30% renewable energy in its electricity mix by 2035, as outlined by the International Renewable Energy Agency (IRENA). At the end of 2024, Brunei’s total installed solar capacity was 5 MW, unchanged since 2021.

Solarvest, in a filing to Bursa Malaysia, confirmed the project’s progress, highlighting its role in advancing Brunei’s renewable energy ambitions. The joint venture’s collaboration reflects a commitment to sustainable energy development, leveraging local and international expertise to deliver clean power.

The solar park will contribute significantly to Brunei’s energy transition, providing a reliable renewable energy source while utilizing a remediated landfill, demonstrating innovative land use for sustainable development. The project strengthens partnerships between private companies and the Brunei government, fostering economic and environmental benefits.
