Liebherr Launches Three 50-Tonne Class G8 Crawler Excavators

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 1, Liebherr introduced the R 948 G8, R 952 G8, and R 958 G8, three Generation 8 crawler excavators, expanding its 50-tonne class product range. The three new models are designed for earthmoving, quarrying and mining, and heavy-duty applications respectively, and are equipped with the new-generation emCAB cab, the INTUSI human-machine interface, and a range of machine control and assistance systems. The series made its world premiere at steinexpo 2026, held from September 2 to 5 in Nieder-Ofleiden, Germany.

Among them, the R 948 G8 is primarily aimed at earthmoving operations, featuring an LC track undercarriage, a dedicated attachment, and optimized power configuration; the R 952 G8 is positioned as a multi-application model, offering three different undercarriage options and a variety of attachments, along with increased engine power; the R 958 G8 is developed for heavy-duty quarrying and mining applications, featuring an S-HD heavy-duty undercarriage and an ME large-capacity digging attachment, with a dedicated configuration available for mining operations.

The main load-bearing structures of the three models are reinforced with high-strength steel and cast steel components. The maintenance system includes an engine service platform, safe access ladders, and an automatic centralized lubrication system. The centralized lubrication function is integrated into the human-machine interface and can adjust the lubrication schedule based on the machine's operating status. The hydraulic system utilizes Liebherr Technology Positive Control control technology.

The new series is equipped with assistance systems such as LPE, Bucket Fill Assist, and Modetronic. According to product data provided by Liebherr, LPE can reduce fuel consumption by up to 10%; Bucket Fill Assist automatically executes the bucket filling process; and Modetronic adjusts machine operating parameters based on different working conditions.

The machines come standard with a passive 2D control system developed jointly by Liebherr and Leica Geosystems, and integrate a dynamic weighing system, with the weighing function included as standard for 500 machine hours. Users can also opt for a 3D control solution and further configure semi-automatic working functions. All three models feature the emCAB cab and INTUSI human-machine interface, equipped with electro-hydraulic joysticks.

In terms of safety features, the new series comes standard with a camera assistance system, with the optional Skyview 360° surround view system available. steinexpo 2026 takes place from September 2 to 5 in Nieder-Ofleiden, central Germany, with the exhibition site located at Europe's largest basalt quarry.
