Novonesis invests EUR 600 million in new-generation enzyme plant in India

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 2, Novonesis announced an expansion plan for its production site in Patalganga, Maharashtra, India, investing EUR 600 million to expand the existing facility and build a new-generation enzyme production unit. The new facility is currently in the planning and construction phase and is expected to be fully operational by 2030.

Once operational, the new plant will produce enzyme products for a range of industrial sectors, including biofuels, home care, and food and beverages. Novonesis stated that this investment will increase its enzyme production capacity and further integrate the Patalganga site into the company's global multipurpose production system. The official announcement has not yet disclosed specific figures such as additional capacity, floor area, or new job numbers.

According to the company's plans, the new Patalganga facility will primarily serve markets in India, the Middle East, and Africa. Novonesis is also currently implementing production facility investments or expansions in Rayong, Thailand; Franklinton, North Carolina, USA; Taicang, China; Araucária, Brazil; and West Allis, Wisconsin, USA. The India project is part of its previously announced capital expenditure plan. In April 2026, the company also acquired a production facility in Rayong, Thailand, for approximately USD 50 million, adding fermentation capacity in Southeast Asia.

The Patalganga project will also feature freshwater recycling and integrated heat pump systems. The freshwater recovery system is designed to reduce fresh water intake at the production site, while the heat pump system will lower the facility's operational energy demand. The company has incorporated these designs into the new plant's production plan to reduce Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions.

Novonesis was formed through the merger of Novozymes and Chr. Hansen, and in 2024 officially adopted "诺和新元" as its official Chinese brand name in mainland China
