Cerebras begins construction on first 50MW phase of 165MW AI data center in Finland
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 1, Cerebras Systems and Compute Nordic Finland confirmed the construction of a 165MW AI data center campus in Mikkeli, Finland, with the first 50MW phase already underway. The project will expand in stages from 50MW to 80MW, ultimately reaching a contracted IT capacity of 165MW, primarily deploying Cerebras AI computing infrastructure.

The two parties have secured project capacity through multiple service orders, each with a contract term of seven years. Compute Nordic Finland is responsible for project development, operations management, customer interface, and overall project governance, while Cerebras serves as the primary computing customer securing long-term AI infrastructure capacity. The Mikkeli project marks the transition from the previously announced plan to "expand European computing capacity in Finland and the Nordics" into concrete site construction.
The campus will be equipped with a closed-loop cooling system, in which cooling water is recirculated internally, with interfaces reserved for waste heat recovery from the data center. The project design supports feeding heat generated by AI computing into the local thermal energy utilization system. The 50MW already under construction represents the first construction phase of the complete 165MW campus, with subsequent 80MW and 165MW phases to be implemented according to the established capacity delivery plan.
Ramboll's earlier assessment of the Finnish data center market and this project indicated that once the full 165MW is completed, the corresponding regional investment scale is estimated at approximately €1 billion to €1.7 billion.
In July, Cerebras announced an overall plan to establish approximately 200MW of AI computing capacity in Europe by the end of 2027, at which time Finland and Norway were already identified as key deployment regions.
