en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 16, ABB launched the PFM 20 Ex industrial dust monitoring device, extending continuous particulate matter detection capability to hazardous industrial environments where combustible dust may be present. The new device achieves a minimum certified measuring range of 0–7.5 mg/m³ and meets the requirements for use in ATEX Zone 22 hazardous areas, making it suitable for continuous dust concentration monitoring in industrial flues, ducts, and filtration systems.

The PFM 20 Ex is an explosion-proof version developed on the basis of ABB's existing PFM 20 particulate matter monitoring platform, primarily targeting industrial areas where explosive dust atmospheres may occasionally form. ATEX Zone 22 corresponds to locations where combustible dust clouds are not normally present during normal operation but may occur briefly under abnormal conditions, allowing the device to be deployed directly in process environments requiring explosion-proof ratings and continuous monitoring of low dust concentrations.

The device can be used for continuous particulate matter detection in flues and ducts of combustion plants, waste incineration facilities, and other industrial production lines, while also covering filter condition monitoring and leak detection. By continuously capturing changes in dust concentration, the system can identify anomalies in dedusting filter devices and changes in particulate matter emissions, and provide online measurement data for emission control of industrial installations.

With the addition of the PFM 20 Ex, ABB's particulate matter monitoring product line includes the PFM 20, PFM 13, and OPM 19 ED, and together with the FMD 09 flue gas flow analysis device forms a dust and flue gas parameter monitoring system. ABB's existing industrial emission monitoring products also include the ACF5000 and MCA 10 continuous emission monitoring systems, as well as portable flame ionization detection devices for on-site real-time measurement of hydrocarbon concentrations.

The dust and flue gas measurement capabilities adopted by this product originate from ABB's acquisition of the Födisch Group completed in 2024. This acquisition incorporated Födisch's existing particulate matter measurement, flue gas flow monitoring, and portable hydrocarbon detection technologies into ABB's Measurement & Analytics product system, and the PFM 20 Ex is a hazardous-environment dust monitoring product that continues to be expanded following the acquisition.

The device can also be connected to the ABB My Measurement Assistant+ digital service platform. This platform can provide device health status, operating reports, technical documentation, and AI knowledge support for specific measurement devices, along with remote and on-site technical services for the operation and maintenance of industrial emission measurement equipment.

The PFM 20 Ex has now completed product launch and entered ABB's industrial emission measurement product system, with key applications in cement, combustion, solid waste treatment, and other industrial production facilities where dust emissions and potentially explosive dust environments exist.
