First Three Stages of Australia's AUD 23 Million Yulara Water Supply Upgrade Completed

en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 23, the Australian government announced that three of the four construction stages of the AUD 23 million Yulara water supply upgrade project have been completed. The completed works include a new production bore and associated water main, a new water treatment facility site, and two raw water storage tanks each with a capacity of 2 million liters. The fourth stage of the project is currently in the planning phase and will involve the construction of a new water treatment plant.

The project is located in Yulara, Northern Territory, Australia, and is jointly funded by the Australian Federal Government through the National Water Grid Fund, the Northern Territory Government, and Voyages Tourism Australia, and is being implemented in collaboration with Power and Water Corporation and local businesses. Under the funding arrangements announced in 2024, the National Water Grid Authority allocated AUD 13.2 million for the Yulara water supply network upgrade.

Stages two and three of the project primarily correspond to the construction of the water treatment site and storage facilities. Tender documents previously released by the Northern Territory Government show that the works include the design and construction of a new water treatment site, with space reserved for the current-phase raw water storage facilities and the future Stage 4 water treatment plant; as well as the installation of two 2-million-liter raw water tanks, equipped with tank instrumentation, control systems, and automated control facilities connected to the existing water supply system.

Stage four plans to build a new drinking water treatment plant, which upon completion will add 3 million liters per day of safe drinking water supply capacity to Yulara, equivalent to up to approximately 1.095 billion liters of additional supply capacity per year based on year-round operation. The Australian government currently expects the entire Yulara water supply upgrade project to be completed by 2029.

Yulara is the main service town surrounding Uluru-Kata Tjuta National Park. The water supply plan previously published by the Northern Territory has already divided the project into construction components including the production bore and water main, the water treatment site, two water storage tanks, and the new water treatment plant. This latest disclosure corresponds to the new milestone of the first three stages being completed and Stage 4 entering the planning phase.
