Infineon to Open New Plant in Thailand on October 1, with Investment Exceeding 48 Billion Baht
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On September 27, Infineon will officially open its new semiconductor manufacturing base in Bang Bo, Samut Prakan Province, Thailand, on October 1. The Thailand Board of Investment disclosed that the project involves an investment of more than 48 billion baht, equivalent to approximately US$1.44 billion, covering advanced power module manufacturing, semiconductor testing, and the construction of an R&D center. Infineon has announced arrangements for a plant opening event on October 1, and the base is currently in the pre-official-opening stage.

The new plant is located in Bang Bo, Samut Prakan Province, and is positioned as a new base in Infineon's global back-end manufacturing network, with a focus on power modules, discrete devices, wafer testing, and R&D operations. The site for the first-phase Module A covers approximately 200,000 square meters, with cleanroom space of up to approximately 30,000 square meters, and reserves space for subsequent expansion. The entire campus can eventually be expanded to as many as 5 manufacturing modules.
The Thailand Board of Investment disclosed that the plant will become Infineon's third power module manufacturing center after Germany and China, with products targeting applications such as electric vehicles, energy storage, power systems, data centers, and advanced electronic devices. After full expansion, the project plans to provide more than 5,000 jobs in Thailand, covering fields such as engineering, R&D, technology, and advanced manufacturing.
The project also includes the construction of a semiconductor R&D center. According to the investment conditions approved by the BOI, Infineon will train more than 600 Thai science and technology professionals, including more than 400 manufacturing engineering personnel and more than 200 R&D personnel, and will arrange for more than 130 employees to receive specialized overseas training in areas such as advanced manufacturing, semiconductor testing, materials, automation, wafer design, and packaging. The company also plans to jointly develop no fewer than 60 semiconductor-related courses with Thai universities and to advance at least 18 joint R&D projects.
Infineon is adopting automation and smart manufacturing systems for the new plant. Module A is designed to operate on 100% green electricity, has set a 25% water recycling target, and is equipped with a rainwater collection system. The company has incorporated the base into its global system of 13 manufacturing sites, and subsequent capacity will be expanded in phases according to market demand.
