Crusoe Terminates $1.25 Billion Boom Turbine Purchase
en.Wedoany.com Reported - U.S. AI infrastructure company Crusoe has confirmed that it has terminated plans to collaborate with Boom Supersonic on the launch of the Superpower gas turbine. The two parties had originally announced in December 2025 a procurement arrangement valued at more than $1.25 billion, under which Crusoe would purchase 29 Superpower gas turbines with a total installed capacity of approximately 1.21 GW, with the first units originally scheduled for delivery in 2027. Crusoe stated that gas turbines are no longer part of the near-term primary power mix for its data centers such as Abilene.

Boom launched the Superpower stationary natural gas turbine in 2025, with a rated output of 42 MW per unit, using core components approximately 80% common with its Symphony aero engine. Crusoe was the product's launch customer at the time, with the 29 units planned for on-site power generation at AI data centers. Boom also completed $300 million in financing and positioned the Superpower business as a commercialization project to expand its turbine manufacturing and support subsequent supersonic passenger aircraft engine development.
Following Crusoe's withdrawal, the original 1.21 GW launch order between the two parties will no longer be executed. Boom CEO Blake Scholl disclosed that the company still expects to deliver approximately 250 MW of Superpower equipment to other projects in 2027, and plans to increase delivery scale to 1 GW in 2028. Boom has not yet published a complete list of relevant replacement customers and project locations.
Crusoe is currently advancing multiple large-scale AI data centers in the United States. Its first-phase approximately 1.2 GW data center under construction in Abilene, Texas, is primarily powered by the public grid, with gas turbines configured as backup power; the company is also building an approximately 900 MW data center locally, which is planned to be equipped with on-site gas turbine power supply. Crusoe stated that its subsequent campuses will select power combinations including gas turbines, wind power, photovoltaics, energy storage, and the grid based on project conditions.
On September 17, Crusoe just completed a $3.9 billion Series F funding round, reaching a post-investment valuation of $30.9 billion. The company disclosed that it has currently signed total data center and cloud business capacity exceeding 6 GW, of which approximately 1 GW is already in operation, with the total contract value of the platform exceeding $140 billion. The new funds will continue to be used for large-scale AI data center campuses and Crusoe Cloud infrastructure construction.
