Musk Says SpaceX Completes $40 Billion GPU Debt Financing
en.Wedoany.com Reported - In the early hours of October 26, Elon Musk, CEO of U.S. space exploration company SpaceX, said on social media that the company has finalized $40 billion in debt financing, earmarked for the purchase of graphics processing units (GPUs) needed for artificial intelligence computing, with the related equipment scheduled for delivery in the first and second quarters of 2027. Musk said SpaceX secured the financing on the strength of its investment-grade credit rating and revenue from its Starlink satellite internet and space launch businesses.

The financing mainly takes the form of callable debt. SpaceX had previously held talks with banks and asset management institutions regarding approximately $40 billion in financing, with the funds planned for the purchase of Nvidia artificial intelligence chips. The company expects capital expenditure to reach $35 billion to $40 billion in the fourth quarter of 2026, with the related purchases involving the subsequent buildout of artificial intelligence computing infrastructure.
Musk also discussed the financing environment for artificial intelligence infrastructure companies. He said the debt market has tightened sharply in recent weeks, and companies lacking stable revenue sources outside their artificial intelligence data center businesses are facing financing difficulties. He expects large-scale bankruptcies and industry consolidation among more than 200 new cloud computing service providers worldwide, with only a limited number ultimately able to survive independently. Musk subsequently said SpaceX has no plans to acquire such cloud computing companies.
