en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 27, German construction machinery manufacturer Liebherr released an update on the delivery and use of heavy equipment by South African crane rental company Concord Cranes. The company took delivery in February 2026 of Africa's first LTM 1400-6.1 all-terrain crane. The machine has a rated maximum lifting capacity of 450 tonnes and features a six-axle chassis. It has now been deployed for port lifting, bridge construction and infrastructure projects, gradually replacing the existing LTM 1400-7.1 crane.

The LTM 1400-6.1 is equipped with a 70-metre telescopic main boom, enabling a maximum lifting height of up to 120 metres, and comes with 140 tonnes of counterweight and a Y-type superlift system. Depending on the specific lifting task, lattice jibs and luffing jibs are available as options to adjust lifting height and working radius. The machine also features the VarioBallast variable counterweight system and the VarioBase variable outrigger support system to adapt to different site conditions and lifting applications.

Since delivery, the crane has been used for actual construction tasks including bridge projects in KwaZulu-Natal, South Africa, as well as port and other infrastructure projects. The six-axle all-terrain chassis supports relocation between different construction sites, and the main boom, counterweight and superlift system can be reconfigured according to specific lifting requirements. Concord Cranes selected this model primarily to renew its existing large-tonnage lifting equipment and to handle various types of heavy lifting work.

Follow-up service for the equipment is provided by Liebherr-Africa, covering operator and technician training, commissioning support, fault diagnostics, scheduled maintenance and spare parts supply. The two parties will also use Liebherr's local service facilities in South Africa for technical support and maintenance work.
