en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 28, a completion ceremony was held for HD Construction Equipment's new engine plant in the Gunsan National Industrial Park in Gunsan, North Jeolla Province, South Korea. The project represents a total investment of KRW 116.8 billion, covers approximately 62,700 square meters of construction land, and took about two years to complete. The plant has an annual production capacity of 1,250 large power generation engines in the 1–3 MW class, 120 K2 tank engines, and 1,460 MWh of battery packs.

The new plant comprises two production facilities equipped with assembly robots, autonomous mobile robots (AMRs), product quality defect pre-inspection equipment, and an integrated production monitoring system. The power generation engine line serves the AI data center power equipment market, while the defense engine line is responsible for manufacturing K2 tank power equipment.

Large power generation engines will be mass-produced in phases. The first model, the DX37 engine, has a displacement of 37 liters and a rated power generation output of 1.3 MW, with mass production scheduled to begin in the first half of 2027; a 77-liter, 3 MW model is planned for mass production in 2028; and a 50-liter, 2 MW model is planned for mass production in 2029. The DX37 engine was publicly unveiled for the first time at the completion ceremony on October 28.

The K2 tank engine production line entered the trial production phase in October 2026. With the Gunsan plant in operation, HD Construction Equipment's annual K2 tank engine production capacity, including its Incheon plant, will reach 240 units.

The battery pack production line built alongside the new plant began mass production in August 2026, with an annual capacity of up to 1,460 MWh. Its products cover battery modules and battery packs required for commercial vehicles, construction machinery, industrial equipment, and energy storage systems.
