en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 28, Australian engineering services company Worley officially confirmed that it had been awarded a contract for engineering and project management services for the refining and petrochemical project of Saudi Rabigh Refining and Petrochemical Company, serving the Rabigh integrated refining and petrochemical complex on the Red Sea coast of Saudi Arabia. The contract covers engineering design, technical assessment, procurement support, and project management for subsequent refining and petrochemical projects, involving new process units, utilities, sulfur recovery facilities, and related infrastructure.

According to the contract scope published by Worley, its work includes preparing design basis scope documents, conducting technical scheme assessments, preparing engineering cost estimates, and assisting the owner in preparing front-end engineering design (FEED) tender document packages. As the relevant projects enter the next stage, Worley will also undertake detailed engineering design and technical and project management support during the engineering implementation phase.

Regarding the engineering of new units at the Rabigh complex, the construction scope previously reported by MEED includes a light naphtha isomerization unit, a deasphalting and dewaxing unit, an ebullated-bed process unit, and sulfur recovery and related treatment facilities. The sulfur treatment works cover a sulfur recovery unit (SRU), an amine regeneration unit (ARU), a sour water stripping unit (SWS), and supporting sulfur handling facilities (SFU), and also involve sales gas distribution, pipeline construction, and revamping of supporting pipelines within the plant area.

Process technology studies also involve vacuum residue processing, integration of the diesel hydrotreating system with the ebullated-bed process, and hydrotreating of unconverted oil. Supporting works include offsite utility facilities, auxiliary pipeline revamping, and connections for utility and hydrocarbon material pipelines. The above specific unit list comes from MEED's reporting on the new unit engineering package, while Worley's October announcement confirms that its engineering services cover multiple future projects at the complex.

MEED previously reported that Rabigh Petrochemical launched the tender for new unit engineering and project management services on May 30, 2025, with an initial bid deadline of June 29, which was subsequently extended to July 17 and July 24. After technical evaluation and commercial negotiations, Worley was selected in the first quarter of 2026 to undertake the relevant engineering and project management consulting work.

Worley will combine Saudi local engineering teams with international technical resources to support the project through different stages from preliminary studies and design to engineering implementation. Its services include assisting in the development of design basis documents, project execution procedures, technical documents, and engineering cost estimates in accordance with relevant Saudi Aramco engineering specifications, and providing subsequent design and procurement support according to the specific project schedule.
