Turkish Airlines Leases Two Boeing 777 Converted Freighters
en.Wedoany.com Reported - On October 29, AerCap Holdings announced the signing of a lease agreement with Turkish Airlines covering two Boeing 777-300ERSF converted freighters, with deliveries scheduled to take place between March and September 2027. The passenger-to-freighter conversion of these two aircraft will be carried out at the Etihad Engineering MRO facility in Abu Dhabi, enabling AerCap to deliver the converted aircraft directly to Turkish Airlines from the Middle East to serve customer demand in the Europe, Middle East and Africa regions.

This aircraft type is converted from the Boeing 777-300ER passenger aircraft and carries the industry designation "The Big Twin," with a cargo hold volume exceeding that of the Boeing 777-8F. Compared with newly manufactured 777F freighters, passenger-to-freighter conversion utilizes second-hand airframes, creating a difference in capital cost. Turkish Airlines' current all-cargo operations are flown by 777 freighters; with the addition of the two 777-300ERSF aircraft, its all-cargo fleet will increase by two aircraft on top of the existing base rather than replacing existing capacity.
This agreement is the latest lease contract under AerCap's 777-300ERSF conversion program. The launch customer for the program was Kalitta Air, to which AerCap delivered the first converted freighter in September 2025. Since then, AerCap has completed a delivery to Fly Meta and has signed lease agreements with Ethiopian Airlines and China Southern Air Holding Company in succession. Turkish Airlines is the latest in this customer sequence, not the first user. The continued expansion of the program's customer list reflects AerCap's operation of the 777-300ERSF as a repeatable delivery model within its freighter leasing product line, rather than a one-off project.
