Wedoany.com Report-Aug. 6, Air Liquide has secured a long-term contract to establish advanced industrial gas production units in Dresden, Germany, within the “Silicon Saxony” region, a prominent European hub for semiconductor technologies. The investment, valued at over €250 million, represents Air Liquide’s largest commitment to Europe’s electronics industry, reinforcing its leadership in the sector. The facilities will supply high-purity gases directly to a major semiconductor customer, meeting the rising demands of the industry.
Under this new long-term contract, Air Liquide will supply large volumes of high-purity gases directly on the manufacturing site of a major customer in the semiconductor industry.
The project includes the construction, ownership, and operation of three Air Separation Units (ASUs), two hydrogen production units, and related infrastructure. These units will deliver a consistent and reliable supply of ultra-pure nitrogen, oxygen, argon, hydrogen, helium, and CO2. Located in Dresden, the facilities are expected to be operational by 2027, supporting the semiconductor market’s growth.
The production units will leverage digital technologies, standardized processes, and modular designs to ensure high reliability and quality for customers. By producing gases on-site, the project reduces the environmental impact of transporting gases by truck, lowering carbon emissions. Additionally, the facilities will aim to use 100% renewable electricity, further enhancing their sustainability.
Emilie Mouren-Renouard, a member of Air Liquide’s Executive Committee overseeing European operations, stated: “This new investment strengthens Air Liquide's position as the leading global and European supplier to the semiconductor industry, directly reflecting the Group's proven expertise and capacity to supply safe and reliable ultra-high purity gases. Supporting customers in developing future technologies across Europe while reducing their carbon footprint is central to our strategy. This investment also reinforces our leadership in the 'Silicon Saxony' while simultaneously contributing to European technological sovereignty.”
The initiative aligns with Air Liquide’s commitment to advancing technological innovation and sustainability in the semiconductor industry. By establishing these state-of-the-art units in Silicon Saxony, the company supports the region’s role as a key center for semiconductor development while promoting environmentally responsible practices.
