Wedoany.com Report-Aug. 20, Beijing Benz, a key player in Mercedes-Benz’s global manufacturing network, is set to begin production of the all-electric Mercedes-Benz CLA at its advanced facility in Beijing E-Town, as announced via the Beijing E-Town official WeChat account on August 18. The Beijing E-Town plant, the company’s sole passenger car production base in China, is one of Mercedes-Benz’s largest and most technologically sophisticated sites, nearing a milestone of six million vehicles produced since its establishment.
The all-electric CLA, scheduled to roll off the production line later this year, will be the 14th model manufactured by Beijing Benz since its founding in 2005 and the completion of the factory in 2006. This model marks the first locally produced battery electric vehicle (BEV) to feature Mercedes-Benz’s proprietary MB.OS architecture. “The launch of the CLA production underscores our commitment to advancing electrification in China,” a Beijing Benz spokesperson stated.
Measuring 4,763 mm in length, 1,836 mm in width, and 1,471 mm in height with a 2,830 mm wheelbase, the CLA features a connected screen layout integrating a digital instrument cluster, central display, and a 14-inch passenger entertainment screen. The cabin is equipped with the fourth-generation MBUX infotainment system, supporting voice commands and gesture controls. The vehicle’s driver-assistance technology is tailored to Chinese road conditions, offering urban and highway navigation-assisted driving functions.
Built on the Mercedes-Benz MMA platform, the CLA employs an advanced 800V electrical system and a single-motor setup delivering up to 200 kW of power, paired with a two-speed transmission. According to China’s CLTC test cycle, the model is expected to achieve a driving range of up to 866 kilometers. “This vehicle combines cutting-edge technology with localized design to meet the needs of Chinese consumers,” a Mercedes-Benz representative noted.
Pre-orders for the CLA began earlier this month, with the market launch planned for autumn. The start of production represents a significant milestone for Beijing Benz’s electrified vehicle portfolio, reinforcing its role in Mercedes-Benz’s global electrification strategy. The Beijing E-Town facility’s advanced capabilities enable the production of high-quality, sustainable vehicles, supporting the growing demand for electric mobility in China and contributing to the company’s commitment to innovative, eco-friendly automotive solutions.
