Wedoany.com Report-Oct. 23, On October 22, Honda Motor (China) Investment Co., Ltd. (Honda China) and Dongfeng Motor Group Company Limited (Dongfeng Motor) jointly launched a social demonstration program for hydrogen fuel cell commercial vehicles in China. The initiative begins in Wuhan, where their joint venture, Wuhan Dongben Storage and Transportation Co., Ltd. (Dongben Storage and Transportation), will deploy hydrogen-powered trucks along existing logistics routes. After the Wuhan phase, the project will gradually expand to other major cities, including Guangzhou and Shanghai.
This demonstration represents a new stage of cooperation between Honda China and Dongfeng Motor, integrating Dongfeng’s expertise in commercial vehicles, Honda’s fuel cell technology, and Dongben Storage and Transportation’s logistics operation experience. The three parties aim to promote the development of a carbon-neutral transportation ecosystem in China by accelerating the use of hydrogen-powered vehicles in logistics.
Since 2023, Honda China and Dongfeng Motor have been jointly conducting integration and testing of Honda’s fuel cell system in Dongfeng’s light-duty commercial vehicles. Over two years of road testing in diverse operating environments, the vehicles have demonstrated high adaptability, durability, and energy efficiency. Test results confirmed the fuel cell system’s excellent overall performance, particularly its fast responsiveness and high reliability, key factors for meeting the practical demands of logistics fleets.
The newly launched demonstration project focuses on evaluating fuel cell vehicle performance under real-world logistics conditions in China. Key objectives include assessing vehicle usability, analyzing operating costs, and evaluating market competitiveness and user acceptance. The program will also study operational efficiency and added value from the perspectives of both fleet operators and end users, providing data-driven insights for future market expansion.
Through this collaboration, Honda China and Dongfeng Motor aim to advance hydrogen energy applications and contribute to the development of clean transportation solutions aligned with China’s carbon neutrality goals. The project also reflects both companies’ long-term strategies to enhance sustainable mobility technologies while maintaining operational efficiency in the logistics sector.
Honda has previously emphasized that fuel cell systems represent a key technology in achieving zero-emission mobility, complementing battery-electric and hybrid powertrains. Dongfeng Motor, one of China’s leading commercial vehicle manufacturers, continues to expand its new energy vehicle portfolio, leveraging partnerships with global automakers to strengthen its position in the green transportation market.
With the launch of the hydrogen fuel cell truck demonstration, Honda China, Dongfeng Motor, and Dongben Storage and Transportation are taking a significant step toward commercializing hydrogen-powered logistics vehicles, supporting broader efforts to create a more sustainable and energy-efficient transportation network across China.
