Wedoany.com Report-Oct. 26, The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has provided a loan to Ignitis Group as part of a €318 million financing package to support the construction of the 314MW Kelmė wind farm in western Lithuania. This project, the largest onshore wind farm in the Baltic region, will produce approximately 740GWh of zero-carbon electricity annually, sufficient to power 250,000 households.

The financing effort includes contributions from the European Investment Bank, Swedbank, and the Nordic Investment Bank, enabling Ignitis Group to complete the wind farm’s development. The project aligns with Ignitis’s goal to achieve 5GW of installed renewable energy capacity by 2030 and supports Lithuania’s national energy objectives and broader European Union climate targets.

Ignitis Group, Lithuania’s leading electricity supplier and a prominent player in the Baltic energy market, has a longstanding partnership with the EBRD. Since Ignitis’s initial public offering in 2020, the EBRD has been its second-largest shareholder, previously funding projects in electricity distribution and e-mobility infrastructure across the region.

The EBRD has invested over €1.8 billion in 143 projects in Lithuania since starting operations there, focusing on sustainable infrastructure and the transition to green energy. The Kelmė wind farm is expected to enhance energy security and reduce reliance on fossil fuels, fostering economic and environmental benefits in the region.
