Wedoany.com Report-Oct. 27, Norwegian renewable energy developer Fenix Repower plans to build two wind power facilities in Ukraine, each featuring between 9 and 12 turbines capable of generating 7 megawatts per unit. Regional authorities have expressed full support for the project, viewing it as an important step toward strengthening the region’s energy independence amid ongoing challenges. Fenix Repower was recently added to the list of companies receiving Norwegian government support for investment projects in Ukraine.
The initiative is part of broader efforts to enhance renewable energy generation and modernize Ukraine’s power infrastructure. The planned facilities will significantly increase wind power capacity and contribute to the diversification of the national energy mix. The company’s investment aligns with Ukraine’s long-term goal of expanding local energy production and improving sustainability.
In addition to the wind projects, Energy Minister Svitlana Grynchuk announced that state-owned energy enterprises are preparing to launch another 400 megawatts of distributed gas generation capacity by the end of 2025. She noted that more than 1 gigawatt of similar capacity has already secured financing and is scheduled for construction by 2026. These distributed generation systems are designed to enhance energy resilience and stability across the country, providing flexible and localized power supply solutions.
At the recent Energy for Business event, Andriy Gerus, head of the parliamentary energy committee, stated that Ukraine plans to commission 1,000 megawatts of solar power capacity before the end of this year. He highlighted that both enterprises and households are actively participating in the expansion of solar energy generation, contributing to a growing shift toward renewable sources.
The rapid development of solar, wind, and distributed gas generation reflects the country’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its energy infrastructure and reduce dependence on imported fuels. These initiatives also support regional economic activity by attracting foreign investment, creating employment opportunities, and fostering local expertise in renewable energy technologies.
Fenix Repower’s entry into the Ukrainian market demonstrates confidence in the country’s renewable energy potential and the growing international cooperation in clean energy projects. The support from Norwegian authorities for such investments is expected to further encourage the participation of European companies in Ukraine’s energy sector.
The combined development of wind, solar, and gas generation capacities represents a strategic approach to ensuring long-term energy security and sustainability. With continued international partnerships and government backing, Ukraine aims to accelerate its transition toward a diversified, efficient, and environmentally friendly power system capable of supporting future economic growth and regional energy stability.
