JinkoSolar Achieves World Record Efficiency of 27.79% for Topcon Solar Cell

Wedoany.com Report-Nov. 27, JinkoSolar has achieved a new world record for n-type TOPCon solar cell efficiency of 27.79% on a 182 mm cell. The result was independently confirmed by the Institute for Solar Energy Research Hamelin (ISFH) in Germany.

This marks the second time in 2025 that JinkoSolar has raised the benchmark for this cell type. In June 2025, the company recorded 27.02% efficiency, certified by China's National Photovoltaic Industry Measurement and Testing Center (NPVM).

The latest advance was enabled by an ultrathin silicon oxide tunneling layer combined with high-quality doped polysilicon passivated contacts that significantly reduce carrier recombination. Additional improvements include advanced passivation materials, lower optical losses, and optimised metallization processes.

JinkoSolar stated that continuous material upgrades and refined manufacturing techniques have driven steady progress, with the same n-type TOPCon platform reaching 26.1% in October 2022.

The company projects that commercial n-type TOPCon cells will exceed 28% efficiency by 2028.

Separately, in January 2025 JinkoSolar reported a 33.84% power conversion efficiency for an n-type perovskite-silicon tandem solar cell, verified by the Shanghai Institute of Microsystem and Information Technology under the Chinese Academy of Sciences. This improved upon its previous tandem cell result of 33.24%.

These achievements reinforce JinkoSolar's position in high-efficiency photovoltaic technology development and support ongoing performance gains across its mass-produced solar module portfolio.
