Wedoany.com Report-Dec.1, Terratec's T83B open-type tunnel boring machine (TBM) has achieved a national record on a major water conveyance tunnel project, advancing 752 metres in July 2025—the highest monthly progress ever recorded in the country for a water tunnel using single-rail track logistics with two mining locomotives.
The Terratec T83B open TBM made a 752m advance in July
The milestone, reached in early 2025 and peaking during July, was publicly recognised by project leadership. Terratec reports that consistent production gains throughout the year reflect close alignment between the T83B’s design features and the contractor's tunnelling approach.
The machine has performed effectively under the project's geological conditions. Its cutterhead layout, ground-support systems, and operational adaptability have enabled steady and reliable advance rates along the alignment.
Productivity was further strengthened by the project team's rigorous logistical planning, smooth shift coordination, and continuous on-site support from Terratec's field service engineers. These combined efforts optimised material handling, segment installation, and overall cycle times despite the constraints of single-track rail transport.
The T83B continues to demonstrate high availability and efficiency on the drive, contributing to accelerated overall project progress. Terratec emphasised that the record monthly advance highlights the value of integrated equipment design and disciplined execution in challenging hard-rock tunnelling environments.
The successful performance reinforces the machine's suitability for long-distance water transfer tunnels and similar infrastructure projects requiring sustained high-output rates.
