Wedoany.com Report-Dec.3, Aster Chemicals and Energy Pte. Ltd., based in Singapore, has signed an agreement with Hitachi Asia Ltd. to acquire two advanced compressor units that will double ethylene export capacity at its Bukom Island facility.

The new equipment, manufactured by Hitachi Industrial Products, Ltd. in Japan, is scheduled for delivery in January 2027. Once installed, the compressors will support a parallel ethylene refrigeration system, significantly increasing loading rates and improving overall operational flexibility.

The upgrade will strengthen integration between the Bukom export terminal and the upstream Chandra Asri cracker complex in Cilegon, Indonesia, creating greater efficiency across the regional ethylene and derivatives supply chain.

Mashhad Dohadwala, Aster's Director for Projects & Technology, stated: "With the installation of a parallel chiller to double ethylene export capacity, Aster is strengthening the regional supply network while supporting Singapore's position as a key petrochemical export hub, backed by 1.1 million metric tons of cracker capacity annually. This project complements Aster's continued focus on efficiency, reliable supply, and innovation as outlined in our recent investments, including enhancement of crude and product logistics, renewable operations, and the expansion of sustainable packaging solutions. Our partnership with Hitachi is a clear demonstration of how we are expanding our assets with trusted global partners to build a resilient and integrated chemicals ecosystem."

Chew Huat Seng, General Manager of the Industrial Products Business Unit at Hitachi Asia Ltd., added: "We are honored to be part of this critical expansion project led by our valued customer. Building on a long and deep-rooted partnership with Aster, Hitachi Asia and Hitachi Industrial Products will ensure smooth project execution, delivery, commissioning and further our long working term relationship with Aster. We remain focused on delivering meaningful goals and shaping a sustainable future together. "

The investment enables Aster to meet growing demand for ethylene—a fundamental building block for plastics, fibers, and various specialty chemicals—across Asia and global markets. The Bukom facility will maintain its role as a strategic export hub supported by reliable, high-capacity refrigeration and loading infrastructure.

The project reflects ongoing collaboration between Aster and Hitachi, combining Japanese engineering expertise with Singapore's position as a leading petrochemical storage and distribution center. Completion of the expansion will further enhance supply reliability for customers throughout the region.
