Wedoany.com Report-Dec.16, Plans have been unveiled for "The Erven," a residential development comprising 519 homes in Hoofddorp, situated 20 kilometers southwest of Amsterdam within the Lincolnpark area.

The buildings will utilize cross-laminated timber frames, insulated with natural materials such as straw and wood fiber. Exterior cladding will incorporate sustainable options including wood, reed, hemp fiber, lime, and recycled aluminum panels. Roofs will feature reed or timber shingles, often integrated with vegetation and solar panels.

Foundations will consist of recycled concrete and gravel, supporting modular structures designed for adaptability to changing needs over time. Attic areas will include provisions to accommodate birds and bats.

The neighborhood will be organized around four themed courtyards, drawing inspiration from traditional Dutch farmyards known as "erven." These spaces aim to foster community interaction and blend residential living with natural elements.

To achieve carbon neutrality over time, the project incorporates energy-efficient features such as heat and cooling recovery systems. Additional amenities include dedicated bicycle parking, parcel delivery zones, and shared electric vehicles to promote sustainable mobility.

The design team comprises White Arkitekter, SeARCH, Space&Matter, Atlas Architects, and DS Landschapsarchitecten. The development is being undertaken by Timpaan and Blauwhoed.

Oskar Norelius, White Arkitekter's lead architect, said: "The Erven demonstrates how the neighbourhoods of the future can be built with nature as a starting point – in timber, bio-based materials and with community at its heart. The design concept for this phase of Lincolnpark was inspired by local traditions, but reinterprets them in a contemporary way, where buildings, nature and people form a living ecosystem."

This initiative highlights a focus on environmentally conscious construction, utilizing renewable and recycled materials to minimize resource consumption and waste. The integration of greenery and biodiversity elements supports local ecosystems while enhancing resident well-being.

The modular design allows for future modifications, such as repurposing spaces for evolving community requirements. Solar installations and efficient systems contribute to reduced energy needs, aligning with broader goals for low-impact urban development.

Located in a growing area near Amsterdam, The Erven aims to provide diverse housing options in a setting that prioritizes sustainability and social connectivity. Construction timelines and specific completion dates are expected to follow as planning progresses.
