Wedoany.com Report-Dec.19, Adriatic Gate Container Terminal (AGCT), the Croatian facility managed by International Container Terminal Services, Inc. (ICTSI), has introduced new super post-Panamax quay cranes featuring a 67.5-metre outreach.

This upgrade enables the Port of Rijeka to serve the largest container ships navigating the Mediterranean and Adriatic regions.

The cranes were officially showcased to representatives from shipping companies, freight forwarders, rail operators, and logistics providers operating along the Rijeka transport corridor. Attendees also included officials from national, regional, and local authorities, such as the Ministry of the Sea, Transport and Infrastructure, along with customs representatives.

Produced by ZPMC, these quay cranes mark AGCT's initial adoption of the most advanced super post-Panamax generation equipment.

Tailored to the terminal's specific requirements, the cranes include reinforced structural features to manage heavier loads and achieve greater operational productivity.

Capable of reaching across 24 container rows, the equipment allows AGCT to handle ultra-large container vessels now commonly used on major trade routes.

The cranes are presently in the commissioning and testing phase, with full deployment anticipated by the end of the year. This will immediately enhance berth utilization, reduce vessel handling times, and improve overall terminal performance.

"The acquisition of these new cranes is an important first step in the continued modernisation of our terminal," said Emmanuel Papagiannakis, AGCT CEO.

"This latest generation of equipment will enable increased capacity, faster and more efficient cargo handling, and full readiness for the largest container vessels in the Mediterranean and Adriatic."

The presentation was co-hosted by Papagiannakis and Denis Vukorepa, Executive Director of the Port of Rijeka Authority, highlighting coordination between private investment and public port development goals.

The introduction of these quay cranes is part of AGCT's comprehensive modernization initiative, which will soon include the delivery of two hybrid rubber-tyred gantry (RTG) cranes.

Papagiannakis added: "Together with the upcoming hybrid RTG cranes and their reduced emissions, we continue to strategically invest in developing and expanding the terminal, as well as in strengthening the Rijeka transport corridor as a key gateway for Central and Southeast European markets."

These enhancements position the Port of Rijeka as an increasingly efficient entry point for regional trade flows.

Meanwhile, ICTSI reported strong financial results for the first nine months of 2025, with revenue from port operations increasing 16 percent year-on-year to $2.34 billion.
