Wedoany.com Report-Dec.23, The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) has approved financing of $200 million (€172 million) to support the development of new wind power facilities in Muğla, Türkiye.

EBRD has invested more than €23bn across over 500 projects in Türkiye, primarily in the private sector.

The funds will be provided to Enerjisa Enerji Üretim (Enerjisa Üretim), a Turkish independent power producer owned by Sabancı Holding and E.ON. This investment will enable the construction of wind plants with a total capacity of 250 MW, forming part of Enerjisa Üretim's 1 GW wind energy portfolio.

Once operational, the facilities are projected to produce approximately 630 GWh of electricity annually, avoiding around 221,000 tonnes of CO₂ emissions each year. The initiative contributes to Türkiye's renewable energy objectives and efforts to reduce reliance on imported fossil fuels.

Şule Kılıç, Head of Energy Eurasia at the EBRD, said: "We're pleased to support our longstanding client, Enerjisa Üretim, in growing its renewable energy portfolio.

"Not only will this project create new green energy capacity, bringing cleaner and cheaper electricity, but it will also contribute to broader economic and social benefits.

"Partnering with Enerjisa Üretim reflects our commitment to scale up renewables in Türkiye and ensure the benefits reach people and communities."

The project incorporates measures to support workforce adaptation in the energy sector. Enerjisa Üretim will establish a vocational qualification and certification centre offering nationally accredited training programs. These initiatives aim to equip workers transitioning from coal-related roles with skills for opportunities in renewables, agriculture, and tourism, aligning with the company's just transition framework.

Since 2009, the EBRD has invested over €23 billion in more than 500 projects in Türkiye, with a primary focus on the private sector.

Mert Yaycıoğlu, Chief Financial Officer of Enerjisa Üretim, said: "As Türkiye's largest independent power producer, Enerjisa Üretim is firmly committed to accelerating the country's energy transition through sustainable and renewable investments.

"Our 4.2 GW of installed capacity, coupled with a solid pipeline of at least 1.5 GW and a portfolio increasingly focused on wind, solar and innovative energy technologies, allows us to see renewable energy not only as a growth area but as a long-term responsibility towards energy security, climate resilience and future generations.

"Partnerships with institutions such as the EBRD are instrumental in scaling this ambition and reinforcing Türkiye's role in the global green energy transformation."

This financing underscores continued collaboration to expand clean energy infrastructure and promote sustainable development in the region.
