Wedoany.com Report-Dec.25, The Democratic Republic of the Congo is seeing significant progress in road infrastructure development through ongoing improvement projects.
The 850-kilometre stretch of Route National 1 highway connecting Nguba and Mbuji-Mayi is undergoing major upgrades. This includes construction of new concrete bridges, stabilisation of the road base, and resurfacing work to enhance durability and safety.
These improvements are being carried out under the Sino-Congolese Programme. Funding has been provided by Sino-Congolaise des Mines. The Société d'infrastructures sino-congolaise is executing the project, with overall management handled by the Agence Congolaise des Grands Travaux (ACGT).
The upgraded highway will improve connectivity between key regions, facilitate the movement of goods and people, and support economic activities in the area. Better road conditions are expected to reduce travel times and vehicle operating costs while enhancing reliability for transport users.
In the capital city of Kinshasa, 105 kilometres of urban roads have been improved over a 15-month period. The works included maintenance, resurfacing, and upgrades to the road network.
Drainage systems were also enhanced during the project. These improvements help reduce the risk of flooding during the rainy season and contribute to smoother traffic flow throughout the city.
The upgraded roads in Kinshasa are designed to increase safety for motorists, pedestrians, and other road users. They support more efficient daily commuting, commercial transport, and overall urban mobility in the densely populated capital.
These infrastructure projects reflect ongoing efforts to strengthen transportation networks across the Democratic Republic of the Congo. Reliable roads play an essential role in connecting communities, enabling trade, and supporting access to services.
The work on Route National 1 and the urban roads in Kinshasa demonstrates practical steps toward improving national connectivity and urban living conditions. The involvement of local agencies like ACGT ensures coordination and oversight in line with national priorities.
As these projects advance, they are expected to bring lasting benefits to residents and businesses by providing more dependable transport infrastructure. Continued focus on road maintenance and development remains important for long-term economic and social progress in the country.
