Wedoany.com Report-Dec.29, According to reports, Samsung Electronics is fully advancing its independent research and development process for Graphics Processing Units (GPUs). The goal is to officially equip the application processor (AP) Exynos 2800, slated for launch in 2027, with its self-developed graphics IP, marking a crucial step forward in its core chip technology self-sufficiency.

It is reported that the Xclipse GPU currently used in Samsung's mid-to-high-end mobile application processors is derived from AMD's RDNA series architecture. This shift towards full independent R&D will not only effectively reduce reliance on external partners but also grant Samsung greater autonomy in GPU feature upgrades and iterations. This will allow for better adaptation to product innovation needs and enhance core competitiveness.

In terms of application planning, Samsung Electronics has outlined a clear expansion path. Its self-developed GPU will start with smartphones and gradually extend to consumer electronics and smart devices such as smart glasses and robots. It will also cover automotive System-on-a-Chip (SoC) scenarios, with plans to enter the Artificial Intelligence Application-Specific Integrated Circuit (AI ASIC) market, aiming to build a multi-domain, full-scenario technology application ecosystem.
