Wedoany.com Report-Dec.30, Today (29th), China's first fully domestic commercial 300-megawatt-class heavy-duty gas turbine project—Unit 5 of the second phase of Huadian Wangting Power Plant—officially commenced operation. This marks the first time China's entire commercial gas turbine domestic industrial chain has been fully integrated.

The second-phase gas turbine project of Huadian Wangting Power Plant is located in Suzhou, Jiangsu Province. It involves the construction of two 494-megawatt gas and steam combined cycle units, both equipped with the world's first batch of 500-megawatt fully hydrogen-cooled generators. Unit 5 is part of the first batch of national gas turbine innovation and development demonstration projects.

Liu Jun, Deputy Director of Huadian Jiangsu Wangting Power Plant: After Unit 5 is put into operation, the project's annual power generation capacity will reach 2.44 billion kilowatt-hours, meeting the annual electricity demand of 2.3 million residents. It can save 200,000 tons of standard coal annually and reduce carbon dioxide emissions by approximately 900,000 tons. This will provide clean energy support for ensuring power supply in the Jiangsu region this winter and next spring.

Unit 5 of the project was developed through collaborative efforts by China Huadian Group, Shanghai Electric, and other upstream and downstream units in the industrial chain. They successfully overcame key technical challenges such as core component manufacturing and achieving autonomous and controllable systems. The project has generated over 30 innovative achievements, realizing autonomous control from core component R&D and application to whole-machine operation and maintenance. This provides solid equipment support for building a new energy system and ensuring national energy security.
