Wedoany.com News, recently, the international independent power producer ContourGlobal has made a major entry into the Greek energy storage market. The company acquired battery energy storage system (BESS) projects with a total capacity of 500 MW / 2 GWh, and simultaneously purchased a portfolio of operational solar assets. This move aims to establish ContourGlobal as a key player in the European renewable energy and energy storage sector.

The specific transaction involves acquiring assets from the Spanish developer FRV and the Greek developer Zephiros. These include the "Taxiarches" project in Thessaly, which is ready for construction with a capacity of 100 MW / 400 MWh, and the remaining 1.6 GWh of capacity distributed across six other locations. All projects have obtained key permits and applied for grid connection, aligning with Greece's BESS priority policy launched in 2025. Concurrently, ContourGlobal also acquired 26 photovoltaic power plants held by Quest Energy, with a total peak capacity of approximately 37 MWp. Antonio Cammisecra, the company's CEO, noted that Greece is a strategic market with rapidly growing renewable energy penetration and a pressing need for large-scale energy storage. Furthermore, the Greek domestic company Metlen and the Tsakos Group have announced the formation of a joint venture. They plan to develop a hybrid power generation project comprising 251.9 MW of solar power and 375 MWh of storage, indicating that investment fervor in Greece's energy storage sector continues to intensify.
