Wedoany.com Report on Feb 12th, Ukrainian Railways has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Swiss State Secretariat for Economic Affairs (SECO) and two Swiss companies, securing approximately 29 million euros in funding for railway line repairs and the modernization of the power supply network. This assistance will support the technical upgrade of Ukraine's railway system and enhance operational efficiency.

According to the agreement, the Swiss company Schwihag AG will deliver over 1.04 million sets of railway fasteners to Ukrainian Railways, sufficient for renewing approximately 250 kilometers of track. This will reduce track deformation and vibration, improving the passenger travel experience. Previously, fasteners worth over 25 million euros have been delivered, completing the modernization of 500 kilometers of track.

Another Swiss company, Arthur Flury AG, will supply around 4,000 sets of section insulators for the overhead contact line, covering 36% of Ukraine's railway power supply network. These new components are lighter and more durable than the original equipment, helping trains maintain their travel speed. Their modular design facilitates localized repairs, avoiding the need to shut down entire sections of the line.

Ukraine's railway system faces production shortages, as major rail manufacturers have ceased operations. To bridge the gap, Ukrainian Railways has received 3,000 tons of R-65 rails from Japan, which will be used to repair over 30 kilometers of track. Japan has cumulatively supplied nearly 25,000 tons of rails, supporting the renovation of over 193 kilometers of lines in regions such as the south and southwest.

International support plays a crucial role in maintaining Ukraine's railway network. The components provided by Switzerland and Japan help Ukrainian Railways build a more resilient railway system, with goals including increasing operational speeds, reducing equipment wear, and maintaining network functionality under difficult conditions. These upgrade efforts are of significant importance for ensuring the continuity of railway transportation.
