Wedoany.com Report on Feb 12th, Renewable energy developer Alight recently announced the acquisition of two large-scale solar projects from its Finnish partner 3Flash. This move adds over 200 megawatts of planned solar capacity and associated battery energy storage systems to its portfolio in Finland.

Through this acquisition, Alight's total project pipeline in Finland has increased to over 1 gigawatt, further solidifying its position in the country's renewable energy market. These projects are located in Eastern Finland, an area with relatively low electricity production levels and fewer grid congestion issues, providing favorable conditions for solar development.

The first project, with an expected capacity of approximately 75 megawatts, is planned for grid connection before 2028 and will leverage its proximity to the network of Finnish transmission system operator Fingrid. The project site has already received approval to build a 30-megawatt battery energy storage system. The second project, with an expected capacity of about 150 megawatts, is planned to connect to the grid via a new substation expansion by Fingrid, aiming for completion around 2030 to achieve efficient connection to the national grid.

Alight and 3Flash will continue to collaborate on developing these projects until they reach ready-to-build status. Miko Huomo, CEO of 3Flash, stated: "We are very pleased to expand our collaboration with Alight through these projects. Together, we are accelerating the construction of grid-friendly solar and storage solutions in Finland."

These new projects expand the existing collaboration between the two parties in Loviisa, Southern Finland, where they are jointly developing a large solar park with a capacity of approximately 120 megawatts and a 45-megawatt battery energy storage system. The Loviisa project recently received multi-million euro funding from the European Commission's Innovation Fund and utilizes AI-enhanced tracking technology, combining solar production with agricultural land, highlighting the application of agrivoltaics.

Alight plans to launch its first solar park in Finland this summer in Eurajoki, with a capacity of 100 megawatts. The company's Finnish projects cover various stages from initial development to construction readiness and are spread across multiple regions. These solar projects are driven by long-term power purchase agreements, under which Alight builds, owns, and operates the facilities, allowing industrial buyers to purchase electricity at stable prices, supporting the grid's integration of renewable energy, and ensuring stable energy costs.

Alight CEO Warren Campbell stated: "By adding local solar and storage, we enhance energy self-sufficiency and grid resilience in Eastern Finland. With its excellent solar conditions and available grid capacity, the region is an ideal location for new large-scale projects." Previously, Alight commissioned the Lidsø solar park in Denmark in December 2025, marking its first operational asset in the Danish market.
