Wedoany.com Report on Feb 14th, Dangote Group has announced a $2.5 billion investment to build a new urea fertilizer plant in the Gode area of Ethiopia. This project is part of the group's "Vision 2030" strategy, aimed at enhancing food security on the African continent. It is expected to produce 3 million metric tons of urea annually to support agricultural output and regional exports.
The plan was unveiled by Executive Director, Commercial Operations, Fatima Aliko-Dangote on Thursday at the 15th Gateway Trade Fair in Abeokuta. She noted, "This investment will help reduce import dependency and foster shared prosperity in Africa." The fertilizer plant project is part of Dangote Group's broader industrial expansion, which includes upgrades to energy and construction assets.
Dangote Petroleum Refinery is implementing a three-year capacity enhancement project to increase output from 650,000 barrels per day to 1.4 million barrels per day, strengthening regional energy security. Concurrently, the group's cement operations in Ogun State are expanding, with plans for a new 6 million metric tons integrated plant in Itori, complementing the existing 12 million metric tons facility in Ibese.
Through remarks delivered by Regional Sales Director Tunde Mabogunje, Aliko-Dangote emphasized that these initiatives aim to leverage policy coordination and private sector execution to promote industrialization and create jobs. The group's strategy specifically focuses on strengthening local supply chains and boosting exports to the West African sub-region.
Niyi Oshiyemi, President of the Ogun State Chambers of Commerce, praised Dangote Group's support at the trade fair, stating, "Public-private partnerships are crucial for economic diversification." The fair showcased how large-scale investments can equip Nigerian youth with modern industrial skills while meeting global safety and environmental standards.
