Wedoany.com Report on Feb 15th, Recently, Yang Ming Marine Transport Corporation took delivery of its first LNG dual-fuel container ship, marking a significant step for the company in the field of green shipping. The vessel, named YM WILLPOWER, was built by Hyundai Heavy Industries in Ulsan, with a capacity of 15,600 TEU and belongs to the "Mega-Neopanamax" (M-NPX) series. Hyundai Heavy Industries plans to deliver a total of five such sister ships to Yang Ming this year and early 2027, all equipped with LNG dual-fuel propulsion systems.

Previously, all 96 vessels in Yang Ming's fleet used conventional power and did not have LNG or methanol fuel capabilities. YM WILLPOWER is the first of five ships ordered by the company in 2023, with the subsequent four to be named WORTHINESS, WAYFINDER, WEIGHT, and WAVERIDER. The addition of these new vessels will gradually enhance the environmental performance of Yang Ming's fleet.

Meanwhile, New Times Shipbuilding delivered the 11,400 TEU MSC BOSTON, the second-to-last ship in a series of ten LNG dual-fuel sister ships built for Mediterranean Shipping Company (MSC). This series is scheduled for completion in 2025 and early 2026, with the tenth ship, MSC SABRINA, expected to enter service in April. As a result, MSC's LNG-powered fleet is approaching 90 vessels, accounting for over one-third of the global in-service LNG-powered container ships.

MSC's LNG-powered fleet size has now surpassed that of CMA CGM, which currently ranks second with 76 LNG-capable vessels. This shift reflects the increasing importance the global shipping industry places on LNG fuel and the proactive efforts of major shipping companies in emission reduction. With more LNG dual-fuel vessels being delivered, the trend towards green transformation in the industry is expected to strengthen further.
