en.Wedoany.com Reported - U.S. railroad company CSX is advancing a switch upgrade project at Radnor Yard in Nashville, Tennessee, installing electric switches on 13 tracks and 8 internal crossings to enhance operational safety and control efficiency.

As part of the 2026 capital improvement project, workers replaced the original manual switches at the north end of the receiving yard with 12 new electric switches that can be directly controlled by the yardmaster. CSX stated that the new switches will supplement existing electric equipment and pave the way for expanding electrification technology to other areas of the yard.

The replacement will continue until early 2027. By then, 37 switches at Radnor Yard will be electrified. CSX officials said that electric switches reduce manual operations and strengthen operational control, thereby creating a safer working environment.

Radnor Yard, covering 517 acres and built in 1954, is one of CSX's key hubs, connecting five major mainlines: Memphis, Birmingham, Chattanooga, Louisville, and Evansville. This switch upgrade is part of CSX's ongoing efforts to improve railway operational efficiency and safety, deploying new technologies at key hubs to support the efficient flow of rail freight.
