The California High-Speed Rail Authority (CHSRA) has successfully completed construction of its southern railhead facility. This 150-acre site near Wasco in Kern County is planned to serve as the primary logistics hub for the next phase of the high-speed rail system. The Wasco facility is now operational for receiving, storing, and distributing materials to support the electrification and track-laying work on the Central Valley segment.

This operational milestone was announced at an event attended by state officials on February 3, 2026. The new facility's infrastructure includes approximately 10 miles of temporary siding and storage tracks. These were constructed in collaboration with BNSF Railway, providing a direct connection to the national freight rail network for the efficient transportation of heavy construction materials and specialized equipment.

On-site assets include a rail storage yard, warehouse space, and maintenance and operations facilities. A control office to manage logistics movement across the 150-acre site has also been completed. The site is a key component of the Authority's plan to install the track and systems needed for high-speed service in the San Joaquin Valley. With the southern railhead facility now complete, the California High-Speed Rail Authority has the logistical capability to proceed with mainline construction.
