The German Association of Tool and Mold Manufacturers (VDWF) recently issued an open letter, pointing out that the tool and mold manufacturing industry is facing severe challenges and calling on the European Union and the German government to take measures to support this critical sector. The VDWF emphasizes that tool and mold manufacturing is the cornerstone of industrial production, crucial for the production of plastic, metal parts, and components made from various other materials, impacting multiple fields such as mobility, medical technology, and consumer goods packaging. The association has 500 member companies, covering European countries including Austria, Switzerland, Slovenia, Sweden, Serbia, and Hungary, and is committed to promoting industry competitiveness.

In its letter to Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy Katherina Reiche and European Commission President Dr. Ursula von der Leyen, the VDWF described the economic difficulties faced by the tool and mold manufacturing industry, including rising costs, global competitive pressures, and declining turnover and production. The association stated that tool and mold manufacturing is of systemic importance, but the trend of deindustrialization is threatening its survival. VDWF Managing Director Ralf Dürrwächter clearly stated in the letter: "The trend of deindustrialization must not continue! We call on you to ensure the competitiveness of the tool and mold manufacturing industry through targeted measures!" He emphasized that the VDWF is actively seeking political attention and support to maintain Germany's position as a technological leader and innovation hub.
This action highlights the core role of the tool and mold manufacturing industry in European industry and the urgency of responding to changes in the global market. The VDWF's appeal aims to promote policy adjustments to help the industry address challenges, ensure its long-term stable development, and support the overall competitiveness of the European economy.
