Wedoany.com Report on Mar 7th, Larsen & Toubro (L&T) held a ceremony at its Kattupalli shipyard in Chennai, India, to officially launch the first indigenously built naval cadet training ship, "Krishna". This is the first of three planned training ships.
Classified by the Indian Register of Shipping (IRS), this training ship incorporates advanced design concepts focused on ergonomic optimization. It is equipped with comprehensive onboard training facilities and an efficient maintenance system. Primarily, it will provide comprehensive sea training for 210 naval cadets, including 150 male and 60 female cadets. It can also accommodate 41 female officers, reflecting the Indian Navy's inclusive approach to personnel deployment.
Beyond its core training function, the ship is designed to perform various auxiliary missions, such as hospital ship operations, non-combatant evacuation, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief, and search and rescue operations. These capabilities enhance the Indian Navy's operational flexibility and emergency response levels.

Dhawan (Retd.), Head of the Defence Vertical at Indian Register of Shipping, stated, "The launch of 'Krishna' marks a significant milestone in strengthening India's indigenous naval design and construction capabilities. IRClass is proud to contribute to this prestigious project by ensuring compliance with robust classification standards aligned with global benchmarks." The training ship is expected to be delivered by September 2026 and will further support the Indian Navy's training needs and diverse mission execution.
