Wedoany.com Report on Mar 7th, Packaging manufacturer Amcor has invested in a new production line at its Amcor Flexibles plant in Lugo di Vicenza, Italy, dedicated to manufacturing high-barrier recyclable films.

This production line enables the large-scale manufacturing of high-barrier films suitable for sealing and pouch applications in sectors such as food, beverages, pet food, and healthcare, including AmLite HeatFlex material for high-pressure and high-temperature environments. Amcor states that this technology achieves film recyclability while maintaining excellent barrier performance.

The expansion of the Lugo plant also includes a quality control laboratory and an automated high-density warehouse, equipped with temperature-controlled rooms for material curing to ensure consistent packaging product quality. This move by Amcor is in alignment with the upcoming Packaging and Packaging Waste Regulation, which requires brands to transition to recyclable packaging by 2030.

Plant General Manager Elena Peron stated: "This new facility embodies Amcor's commitment to developing packaging that is recyclable, reusable, or compostable. This expansion, combined with the expertise of the Amcor team, will help our customers adopt recyclable packaging and drive the packaging industry towards a more circular direction."

Earlier this month, Amcor also partnered with plant care company DCM to develop a mono-material polyethylene film for European fertilizer products, containing 35% post-consumer recycled content, which is claimed to reduce the carbon footprint by 17%. This film uses an MDO structure, effectively preventing gas and moisture ingress while maintaining high tensile strength and tear resistance.
