Wedoany.com Report on Mar 16th, Independent power producer Scatec, in collaboration with Aeolus SAS, a subsidiary of Japan's Toyota Tsusho Corporation, has achieved the commercial operation of the 60 MW Sidi Bouzid solar plant in Tunisia. This solar project, which has signed a 30-year power purchase agreement with the state-owned Tunisian electricity and gas company STEG, marks Scatec's first operational solar facility in the country.

Terje Pilskog, CEO of Scatec, stated, "The commissioning of the Sidi Bouzid plant helps us establish a foothold in Tunisia's renewable energy market. It demonstrates our ability to expand into new regions through competitive tendering, solid partnerships, and an integrated business model." This solar plant is part of a 120 MW solar PV program developed by Scatec and Aeolus in Tunisia. The agreement includes two 60 MW plants, Sidi Bouzid and Tozeur, with Scatec holding a 51% stake and Aeolus holding 49%.

The expansion project, valued at approximately €79 million, achieved financial closure through non-recourse debt, concessional loans, and equity financing. The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) and Proparco provided €25 million in funding support. The Tozeur solar plant is expected to be commissioned in the first half of 2026. The two plants together are projected to generate approximately 288 GWh of clean electricity annually.

Scatec and Aeolus will be responsible for the operation and maintenance and asset management of the projects, respectively. These solar projects were all secured through government tender processes. The advancement of the Tunisian solar plants contributes to enhancing local renewable energy supply and supporting energy transition goals.
