Wedoany.com Report on Mar 16th, LG Electronics' appliance production base in Clarksville, Tennessee, USA, has recently demonstrated high performance in injection molding production. Recognized as a Lighthouse Factory by the World Economic Forum, this plant integrates automation, refined management, and sustainable practices, with an annual output of 1.5 million home appliances.

"I'm in the injection molding plant every day," said Paul Caprio, President of LS Mtron Injection Molding Machines USA and Canada. "No factory is as clean as this one. It reflects the close collaboration between LS Mtron and our customers, achieving excellent results through innovative solutions."
Injection molding technology is the core process of the plant. Twenty-one LS Mtron injection molding machines operate five days a week, in three shifts per day, producing 170,000 appliances monthly with a scrap rate controlled at 1.3% and an overall equipment effectiveness of 90%. The overall downtime for the workshop does not exceed 17 hours per month.
The plant utilizes a unique Tennessee Injection Molding (T.I.M.) dashboard for real-time production monitoring, providing defect traceability. "The T.I.M. dashboard was custom-designed by engineers and can track nearly every defect perfectly," said Hyeongnam Park, Director of LG Tennessee Injection Molding Technology Team.
Operators conduct regular inspections to ensure machine reliability, cleaning screws every three weeks to prevent contamination. Mold maintenance personnel are stationed at the entrance of the 1,250-square-foot injection molding area, using dry ice to clean molds and keep the area tidy.
The plant employs programmed robots to prevent part damage, vision systems to ensure precision, and LG's proprietary "Smart Injection" process for real-time process adjustments. Resin loading is tracked in real-time; the dashboard marks shortages in red. The plant maintains a 3.5-day supply of ten types of resin to ensure continuous production.
"The plant engineers are key," Park added. "They take on additional process responsibilities, such as participating in screw replacements for injection molding machines." Most operators have over three years of experience. Supervisors conduct quality reviews during shift changes, displaying defective parts for learning and improvement.
In terms of sustainability, cooling water for molds and machines is chemically treated and recycled, reducing water waste. Through injection molding technology and digital means, LG Electronics' Clarksville plant demonstrates a production model that is both efficient and environmentally friendly.
