en.Wedoany.com Report on Mar 26th, The UK-based West Midlands precision engineering subcontractor A&M EDM has successfully manufactured critical components, cryogenic motor housings, for GKN Aerospace's H2GEAR research and development program. These aluminum components, approximately one meter in diameter, feature complex feedthrough characteristics and meet stringent tolerance requirements. They are designed for high-vacuum cryogenic environments, supporting the development of liquid hydrogen propulsion systems for zero-emission regional aircraft.

As a global Tier 1 supplier, GKN Aerospace's H2GEAR project aims to develop liquid hydrogen propulsion technology. It converts cryogenic liquid hydrogen into electricity through a fuel cell system to power electric motors, with water vapor being the only emission byproduct. The cryogenic motor housings manufactured by A&M EDM are core components of the project's concept demonstrator, showcasing the collaborative capabilities of the UK manufacturing supply chain in the aerospace sector.

The H2GEAR program is led by GKN Aerospace's Global Technology Centre in Bristol, UK, with a total investment of £54 million. The UK's Aerospace Technology Institute is funding £27 million, with the remainder matched by GKN Aerospace and its partners. Focusing on zero-emission aviation technology, A&M EDM's precision manufacturing provides reliable cryogenic motor housings for the cryogenically cooled motors, aiding the research and development progress.
