Intelligent Seed Processing Line in Yangling, Shaanxi, China Goes into Operation, Completing Corn Seed Selection to Packaging in 15 Minutes

en.Wedoany.com Report, On March 26, inside the Shaanxi Provincial Crop Seed Breeding and Processing Base located in the Yangling Demonstration Zone, Shaanxi, China, a fully automated intelligent seed processing production line was in operation. The entire process for corn seeds, from entering the silo to completing packaging, takes approximately 15 minutes. The seeds sequentially undergo procedures including air screening, specific gravity separation, indented cylinder separation, and color sorting, and are then packaged automatically and palletized by robotic arms, achieving unmanned operation.

According to Zhuang Shaolong, General Manager of the Shaanxi Branch of Yangling Qinfeng Seed Industry Co., Ltd., the corn seeds processed by this production line can achieve a germination rate of 97% to 98% and a purity exceeding 99.5%. He stated, "Don't underestimate these four or five percentage points. When reflected in the field, it can mean over 100 more corn seedlings per mu (approximately 0.067 hectares), leading to an increase of over 30 jin (approximately 15 kilograms) per mu in yield."

Invested and constructed by Shaanxi Provincial Seed Industry Group Co., Ltd., the base was completed and put into operation in July 2025. With a storage capacity of 6,500 tons and an annual seed processing capacity of up to 40,000 tons, it is a large-scale seed industry infrastructure facility in Northwest China with a high degree of modernization and complete supporting facilities. Currently, the base is intensifying production of corn seeds to meet the demand for seeds during the spring planting season.

Sun Dong, a personnel responsible for equipment operation and maintenance on the base's production line, explained that traditional seed processing relies on manual labor, while the fully automated intelligent production line addresses two key issues: quality stability and precise screening. After the screening stage, seeds enter the intelligent coating process, where seed coating agents are matched according to the climatic characteristics of different regions. The packaging stage employs an automatic counting and feedback adjustment system, realizing a shift from "selling by weight" to "selling by seed count."

Each product package includes an anti-counterfeiting traceability QR code. Farmers or distributors can scan it to view information such as the production base, processing batch, and production time, achieving fully transparent management.

Zhuang Shaolong introduced that the base can process over 80 million jin (approximately 40,000 tons) of improved seeds like corn and wheat annually, meeting the seed demand for over 11 million mu (approximately 7.33 million hectares). Currently, the corn varieties processed by the production line in a single day can meet the seed demand for 30,000 mu (approximately 2,000 hectares). The products have been successively shipped to the spring corn areas in Northwest China and the summer corn areas in the Huang-Huai-Hai region.

In recent years, the Yangling Demonstration Zone has approved and registered 625 new crop varieties, including 56 nationally approved varieties. Nine varieties have been selected as national leading agricultural varieties. The annual demonstration and promotion area exceeds 120 million mu (approximately 8 million hectares), generating promotion benefits exceeding 30 billion yuan.
