en.Wedoany.com Reported - The Doncaster City Council in the UK has appointed Equans to deliver a £5 million contract for an energy-efficient home modernization program. The initiative will cover socially rented homes managed by St Leger Homes as well as some private properties.

The retrofit work will begin in Edlington, where over 50 bungalows and houses will receive new roofs to reduce heat loss. In areas such as Cadeby, Thorpe in Balne, and Tickhill, an additional 21 energy-efficient homes will receive tailored packages of measures, including air source heat pumps, solar panels, additional insulation, and improved ventilation systems. Post-retrofit, each home is expected to reduce carbon emissions by 2.5 tonnes per year, equivalent to the emissions from driving a petrol car for 15,000 miles. Energy monitoring devices will also be installed in the homes, allowing residents to better control their heating usage while enabling St Leger Homes to assess the actual impact of the improvements.

Sean Corcoran, Regional Director for Equans UK & Ireland, said: "Equans has been improving homes in Doncaster for many years, and we are delighted to continue our work in the city. Everyone deserves a warm and affordable place to live, and energy-efficient home projects like this can truly transform lives. Through collaboration, we can also help reduce the community's carbon footprint, which will play a key role in Doncaster City Council's ambition to make the borough carbon neutral."

Glyn Jones, Deputy Mayor of Doncaster, stated: "This energy-efficient homes project continues our priority of ensuring everyone in Doncaster has access to affordable, warm, and high-quality housing. Working with our partners, we will provide Doncaster residents with the living conditions they deserve. This investment will give residents greater confidence during cold weather and ultimately remove the worry of how to stay warm in winter."

Lee Winterbottom, Property Services Director at St Leger Homes, commented: "This investment marks a significant step in modernizing energy-efficient homes in Doncaster, further enhancing energy efficiency for our residents. By working with Equans and the City Council, we are ensuring homes are more resilient, cheaper to heat, and prepared for a low-carbon future. These improvements will have a real impact on the families we serve."

The energy-efficient homes program is partly funded by the UK government's Warm Homes Fund, and the contract was awarded through the Green Futures Partnership's Decarbonisation Delivery Framework.
