en.Wedoany.com Reported - GWM's Ora brand will launch the Ora 5 electric SUV in Australia later this month, with a starting price of $33,990 AUD (all prices are drive-away), while a cheaper hybrid version may also be introduced, with the entry-level Lux variant potentially priced below $30,000 AUD.

Parent company GWM has not yet confirmed whether the HEV will definitely be introduced to Australia, currently focusing on the launch of the electric version. Steve Maciver, Head of Marketing and Communications for GWM Australia, said: "Our focus right now is on launching the Ora 5 SUV (EV). We think it's a vehicle whose time has come. We've been quite aggressive in our positioning and pricing. We saw an opportunity, and that's why we're doing it. But... our positioning of the Ora 5 SUV is deliberate, and it will influence the positioning of other models around it. So, you can read into that. We're very happy with Ora's pricing at the moment. It's resonating, but it also leaves room for choice on either side of us."

Maciver added: "The Ora range will expand further this year. You might see one or two, or even more, Ora models landing in Australia this year. (But) at this stage, Ora is focused on electric. There could also be hybrid options included... We're not making any promises, but equally, we have plenty of choices. We just need to figure out what works best for us." Beyond the Ora 5 SUV, more different models may be launched, with specific models yet to be publicly disclosed, with predictions including a larger SUV and a city-class microcar.

In the Chinese market, the Ora 5 has three powertrain options. The EV version is equipped with a 150kW/260Nm electric motor and a 58.3kWh battery pack, offering a WLTC range of approximately 430km. The HEV version pairs a 1.5-litre petrol engine with an electric motor, delivering a combined power output of 164kW and 476Nm of torque, with an average fuel consumption of 5.1L/100km and a range exceeding 1000km. The pure internal combustion engine version offers a choice of a naturally aspirated 105kW/210Nm or a turbocharged 118kW/270Nm option, with fuel consumption of 6.7L/100km.

The cargo capacity of the Ora 5 HEV is reduced, dropping from 422 litres in the EV version to 390 litres (without spare tyre), or from 362 litres to 272 litres (with spare tyre).

Maciver added that he is encouraged by the pre-launch reaction to the Ora 5 EV's pricing. He stated: "The response so far has been very, very strong, with a significant number of orders received in the first few weeks. We've always said that with Ora, if we could put an electric powertrain into an SUV body, we would do well. Now, obviously, our timing has been very fortunate, but this car has genuinely been a success right from launch."

The Ora 5 EV's $33,990 AUD pricing undercuts all competitor electric SUVs, including the BYD Atto 2 at approximately $35,500 AUD, the Jaecoo J5 EV at $36,990 AUD, and the Chery E5 at $37,990 AUD. Cheaper non-SUV electric vehicles include the BYD Atto 1 hatchback at around $27,100 AUD, the MG 4 Urban hatchback at $31,990 AUD, the GAC Aion UT hatchback at $32,990 AUD, and the BYD Dolphin hatchback at approximately $33,400 AUD.
