en.Wedoany.com Reported - ENKA and GE Vernova announced the commercial operation of the 852-megawatt combined cycle Kırklareli Power Plant in Kırklareli, northern Turkey. The plant utilizes GE Vernova's 9HA.02 gas turbine, making it the first power plant in Turkey driven by an HA-class unit.
Mehmet Tara, Chairman and President of ENKA, stated: "With the successful commissioning of the Kırklareli Power Plant, ENKA has achieved a significant milestone, solidifying its position as the investor, EPC contractor, and operator of one of Turkey's most efficient combined cycle facilities." Under a multi-year agreement, GE Vernova will also provide long-term maintenance services.
The plant's commercial operation comes as Turkey is committed to modernizing its power system by meeting growing electricity demand with a more efficient, resilient, and diversified generation mix. According to the International Energy Agency, Turkey's natural gas power generation has grown substantially over the past two decades and is now a critical component of the country's energy mix, supplying over a quarter of its electricity. The Kırklareli Power Plant is expected to be one of Turkey's most efficient combined cycle gas power plants, with a net efficiency exceeding 63% in combined cycle mode.
GE Vernova supplied the combined cycle power generation equipment for the project, including one 9HA.02 gas turbine equipped with an H78 generator, one STF-D650 steam turbine, and a triple-pressure heat recovery steam generator. All engineering, procurement, construction, and commissioning work was executed by ENKA. With this project, GE Vernova's total installed gas power generation capacity in Turkey reaches 13.5 gigawatts. GE has been involved in Turkey's energy infrastructure construction for over 75 years, currently having approximately 33.5 gigawatts of installed capacity across gas, wind, hydro, and solar power, and possessing manufacturing and R&D capabilities through its Gebze transformer factory.
