en.Wedoany.com Reported - Midlands-based developer Morro Partnerships has reached a significant milestone at its Swan Lane residential project in West Bromwich, Sandwell, with the first keys officially handed over to residents. The development, which is transforming a former gasworks site into a community, is on track for completion by the end of the year as scheduled.

Delivered in partnership with GreenSquareAccord (GSA), the development will provide 147 affordable homes, comprising 41 two-bedroom and 24 three-bedroom houses, along with 17 one-bedroom and 65 two-bedroom apartments. Now over halfway through construction, the project has already won the Social Impact Award at last year's Insider Media Midlands Residential Property Awards for its contribution to the community.

Abdul Mozzamdar, Social Value Lead at Morro Partnerships, said: "Reaching the handover stage is a major milestone for Swan Lane, reflecting the hard work of all involved in progressing this complex brownfield project to deliver homes for the community." The development has generated over £305,000 in social value through various initiatives, employing five apprentices within a 30-mile radius, hosting site visits for 60 students, and dedicating 737 hours to careers guidance and school engagement. On the environmental front, Morro has maintained a 100% waste recycling rate, diverting over 90 tonnes of difficult-to-recycle materials from landfill.

Community support extends to local organisations, with homelessness charity Chapter House receiving donations of furniture and equipment, as well as volunteer support. The development recently gained attention during a visit from the Mayor of the West Midlands, who discussed the project's role in regional growth and skills development with stakeholders. Carl Taylor, Assistant Director of New Business at GSA, said the development is transforming derelict industrial land into a vibrant new community.
